The short answer

An Ethereum casino accepts ETH, and often ERC-20 tokens such as USDT and USDC, on the Ethereum network. Blocks arrive every 12 seconds, so deposits are quick, but every transaction pays a gas fee in ETH that rises when the network is busy. If the casino supports a layer 2 network such as Arbitrum, Optimism or Base, using it is usually far cheaper, but only send on the exact network the cashier lists.

Why use Ethereum at a casino?

Speed. Ethereum.org says time is divided into twelve-second slots and “the block time is 12s” when validators are working normally. A deposit is usually included in a block within seconds, and the casino then waits for however many confirmations it requires.

Fees. Gas is the cost of getting a transaction processed. Ethereum.org gives the formula as “units of gas used * (base fee + priority fee)”, quoted in gwei, where one gwei is a billionth of an ETH. The base fee goes up when blocks are full, and users who want priority add a bigger tip. When we checked the Etherscan gas tracker on 1 October 2026, the average gas price was about 5 gwei. On the same day ethereum.org showed an average transaction cost of $0.17 on mainnet against $0.0016 on Ethereum layer 2 networks. Both move constantly.

Which network to pick, and common mistakes

Ethereum is not one route but several. ETH and Ethereum-based tokens can sit on mainnet or on layer 2 networks that settle back to Ethereum.

• ERC-20 tokens still need ETH for gas. If you hold USDT or USDC on Ethereum but no ETH, you cannot send them. Keep a small ETH balance in the same wallet.
• Mainnet vs layer 2. An address on Arbitrum, Optimism or Base looks identical to a mainnet address, but the funds live on a different network. Only use a layer 2 if the cashier names that exact network.
• Ethereum vs other chains. USDT also exists on TRON, Solana and other chains. A cashier’s “USDT (ERC-20)” option means Ethereum, not TRON.
• Sending to a contract. Ethereum.org warns that ERC-20 tokens sent to a smart contract not designed to receive them “can be permanently lost”, for example USDT sent to the USDT token contract address itself. It estimated at least $83.6 million in tokens lost this way as of June 2024. Always paste the deposit address the casino gives you.
• Fee spikes. Gas can jump during busy periods. Check the fee your wallet shows before you confirm, especially on small deposits.

Withdrawals and KYC

An ETH withdrawal waits first on the casino’s own approval, which can be automatic or a manual review, and then on the blockchain, which is fast on Ethereum. Why did my Ethereum casino deposit cost so much in fees?

Gas is paid in ETH and depends on how busy the network is, not on the amount you send. A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas, while token transfers run through a smart contract and need more. A layer 2 network, if the casino supports it, usually costs a small fraction.

Can I deposit USDT on Ethereum at an Ethereum casino?

Only if the cashier lists USDT on Ethereum (often shown as ERC-20). You still need ETH in your wallet to pay the gas.
